Q: What are your current position and responsibilities?
A: Doherty has two different business services: one provides temporary labor employees and the other provides outsourced Human Resources services
to client companies. As Director of Safety & Wellness, I lead a team responsible for case management of all work comp claims, work comp/safety approval
of all temporary labor placements and all new outsourced HR clients, developing safety and injury prevention initiatives & consulting for our clients,
OSHA compliance and employee wellness programs.
Q: What are your past positions and areas of expertise?
A: I've had a variety of jobs in my 27 years as an OHN. I qualified as COHN-S in 1986. I worked in occupational health & safety at: FMC,
Minneapolis Electric Steel Castings, Nortel, Graco and Pepsi Cola; and as a safety & health consultant for the Minnesota Safety Council and Aon
Risk services. After years of responding to work-related injuries, illnesses and in one case a fatality, I was drawn to safety because I strongly
believe in injury prevention. I qualified as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) in 1992. I have always been interested in international approaches
to health and safety (many times other countries have great ideas from which we can learn), and while working in the United Kingdom in 2001-02, I
qualified for the Registered Safety Professional (RSP) designation in the UK.
Q: What is your educational background?
A: Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Management and Master of Public Health
Q: What are your outside interests?
A: International travel (my personal goal is to visit every continent, and a planned trip to China this spring will be continent #6), gardening,
photography, skiing, hiking and spending time with friends & family.
Q: What will your new role with ABOHN entail?
A: I am not completely certain because my first Board meeting will be in June 2007, and I haven't yet received all my materials from ABOHN. The
application states that Board members are: "ultimately accountable for the quality of the certification process." ABOHN's priority is to assure the
Certification process relates directly to knowledge & skills required of OHNs in today's workplace. I was recruited for the Board because I have a
strong background in safety, and the Board has established a priority to include more safety concepts in the Certification process. I am pleased to
have the opportunity to contribute to ABOHN and the Certification process.
