Changes to AAOHN
On August 31, the MAOHN Board sent out the following letter to all members via email. If you did not receive this important update, please be sure we have the correct email address for you. You can update your information by clicking here.

MAOHN Members:
The past few months have brought several changes in our organization, both nationally and at a state level. The state of the economy continues to impact us all. In an attempt to refocus energy and resources toward revitalization of the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, the organizational management of AAOHN was transferred to a nursing management company Dancy, Callan and Associates, in Pensacola, Florida. Phone 800-241-8014. www.aaohn.org/contact_aaohn.cfm

You should be receiving "e-blast" updates from AAOHN regarding these and other changes. However, we have learned that when the email lists were transferred, some member's names were deleted in error. If you are NOT receiving the notification emails from AAOHN, please go to www.aaohn.org and login with your user name and password and update your "member information sheet". By resubmitting your information, your name will then automatically be added to the mass email list. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact the organization at the phone or email listed above.

The AAOHN Board of Directors is available, as always, for your questions and comments. Their individual contact information is available at the AAOHN website.

Regards,
MAOHN Board of Directors

Changes to MAOHN

August 31, 2009

MAOHN Members:
In addition to the changes at the national level of our organization outlined in the previous letter, our State chapter is also in a period of change.

It is with sadness that I inform you that Caroll Niewolny, president MAOHN 2009-2010, resigned her position with the chapter at the end of July. Our by-laws direct that the president-elect moves into this position when confirmed by our current Board of Directors.

During our Board Retreat on August 18, 2009 the board confirmed that Linda Carlson would transition from president-elect to president of MAOHN for 2009-2010 year. A vote was then taken for the new open position of president elect and Jennifer Hastings was voted into this position for 2009-2010.

Our retreat was successful and an exciting agenda was confirmed for this upcoming year for members and guests. The meeting site of the Outback Steak House has been popular. Your programs committee has been able to negotiate competitive pricing, so we will continue to have our member meetings at this location. We continue to look at options for networking and program outreach options, within our budget limitations.

I am thrilled to inform you that currently our MAOHN organizational budget is balanced. However, we all need to step forward and maintain our membership to sustain the professional resources that we all need; both at the state and national level. I realize that many companies are not supporting our membership dues any longer, but as a professional occupational health nurse it is our professional responsibility and privilege to support our organization. Cost for combined national and state membership is only $18.50/month. When broken down this way, it is a very low cost for the valuable networking and educational resources provided to members. Your sustained membership is critical to the organization survival. The national AAOHN board feels that if we each can reach out to another occupational health nurse who is not currently a member and encourage them to join this year, the organization’s declining membership and financial viability can be stabilized.

Your MAOHN strives to meet your needs as an active member of our organization. Please let us know if you have any questions.

I look forward to seeing you at the September 15, 2009 member meeting at the Outback Steak House in Bloomington, MN. Online Registration is now open. Bring a friend!

Regards,
Linda Carlson RN, MPH, COHN-S
President, MAOHN

Your Programs Committee conducted a survey of MAOHN members "What would you like from your State Organization of MAOHN." Our membership has indicated a desire for more technology based education. The Programs Committee is looking for members to become part of an "ad hoc committee" to investigate this option. If you are interested please send your contact information to the MAOHN.
