President's Message

MAOHN 2008-2009
Betty Post

The past year has been rewarding for me to serve as the President of the Minnesota Association of Occupational Health Nurses and I thank the membership for this opportunity.

The 40th Anniversary celebration reminded us of the dedication of many members in building this organization not only on the local but the National level. We have certainly been able to create a future from the foundation provided.

We have worked on several projects this past year with positive outcomes.

  1. The 40th Anniversary celebration at several of the meetings provided a history focus that is as important today as it was over the years.
  2. MAOHN was a proud recipient of a Resolution from the Minnesota State Senate recognizing the volunteers who have taken blood pressures for 25 years.
  3. Compact Licensure became a key activity for this year. The bill was introduced and given a "number" but did not make it out of committee. This was a successful step and will be pursued again.
  4. Minnesota Return to Work/Stay at Work Summit: MAOHN was a key sponsor to this Summit to bring awareness and education of the importance of work to employees. There are focus groups who are continuing to pursue this activity and there will be opportunities for interested people to participate.
  5. Joint Conference and Vendor Fair with the Minnesota DMEC in October 2007. This was the second year of the joint conference and we are in the planning for the 3rd one to be held on October 2, 2008 at Earle Browne.
  6. Board members attended the Conference of Leaders and several members attended the AAOHN Symposium and Expo.

While we have had many successes, we continue to struggle for manpower as do many volunteer organizations.

The future will also define the changing faces of the Occupational Health Nurse. The opportunities will be there as will change.

Thanks again for a great year.
